Vitamix E310 vs Pro 500 Review: Ranking 2 Vitamix Blenders – Which Is The Better Combo For Making Smoothies, Butter, Soup & More Recipes?

I highly recommend the Vitamix E310 after comparing the Vitamix E310 vs Pro 500. The good thing about the Vitamix E310 is that it’s powerful plus it can whip up hot soup and butter in minutes. Unlike the Pro 500, even though it says it can make hot soup, the E310 creates a more consistent blending speed for challenging ingredients.

The Vitamix Pro 500, on the other hand, is good for a few things. It can whip up smoothies, desserts, creams, sauces, and basically everything but hot soup. It even has smaller blades in comparison to its large 64-ounce carafe jar.

All in all, there are many cons to using Pro 500. So when you factor in the ease of use and compact design of the Vitamix E310, it takes your blending skills to the next level. And it’s more cost-effective and valuable to use.

Vitamix E310 vs Pro 500: Differences

The Vitamix E310 wins 3 – 1 against the Pro 500. It has a better blending speed, powerful motor, and convenient design. The Pro 500 only includes better utilities such as a longer warranty and longer cord wrap. But feature-wise and performance-wise, the Vitamix E310 is better.

1. Blending Performance

The Winner: Vitamix E310

Vitamix E310 Blending Performance

+Motor

The E310 runs on a 2.0 HP motor which is powerful, quiet, and efficient. Considering its small 48-ounce container size, it produces plenty of power to run consistently without overheating or overloading. And you can run it for a longer time, in a single sitting, without much trouble.

But the Vitamix Pro 500, which uses a larger 64-ounce container, uses the same high peak motor (2.0) for its blending. According to industry standards, it’s limited in its blending performance. Especially when you compare it to other blenders that use 2.2 HP motor with 64-ounces of blending capacity.

Blending soft and hard ingredients is tougher and faster in the E310 than the Pro 500. Due to the larger Pro 500’s blending capacity, it may also produce more noise at higher speeds.

+Container Size

There is no drawback in either one of these blenders when you talk about their jar size. The difference is in their sizes – 48 ounce and 64 ounces respectively. And this primarily depends on what you’re looking for as a home cook.

A variety of factors weigh in here. For example, how many cups of ingredients do you need to blend every day? If it’s a smaller quantity, the 48-ounce blender of the E310 will work. It’s compact and lightweight with a high-powered motor.

For a larger serving, however, that is more than 2 cups or 2 cups minimum, the 64-ounce blender of the Pro 500 is ideal. You won’t have to divide the ingredients into 1 cup portions (this is what you will need to do with the E310). You can easily blend 2 cups at a time with no lumps or chunks left behind.

Size-wise, the choice is entirely yours and what you’re looking for.

+Blade Size

The E310 features a 48-ounce container with 3-inch blades. This is the professional standard for all kitchen appliances. The blades are sturdy and fast. The blades blend everything perfectly without leaving chunks of food underneath. Because the container of the E310 is slightly narrow and short, it is more accommodating and useful for ingredients like seeds or dried nuts.

The blade size of the Pro 500 is 3-inch too. Why is this such a letdown in comparison to the 3-inch blades of E310? The Pro 500 features a 64-ounce container. The standard for a 64-ounce container is 4-inch blades. So in comparison to that, 3-inch blades are smaller.

This makes it trickier to use when blending harder ingredients. The Pro 500 is fairly decent when it comes to blending all types of ingredients. But the smaller blade size in a large 64-ounce container does leave some gaps in blending consistency.

Moreover, the E310 creates fast-acting friction when blending at a higher speed. This increases the temperature of the food inside, which is perfect for blending soups.

The Pro 500 series, despite its manufacturer details that it can blend soup, do not create blade friction for hot soup. So that’s one feature that the Pro 500 series does not offer despite the fact that it shares the same 10 variable speeds as the E310.

2. Controls / Settings

The Winner: Vitamix E310

+Pre-Programmed Settings

One thing that the Professional Series 500 does have that is absent in the E310 are the 3 blending presets. Right next to the 1-10 variable speed dial, you can switch to any one of the 3 pre-programmed modes of the Pro 500 blender.

You can select from smoothies, frozen desserts, and hot soup. But the soup mode is not very effective because it does not create enough friction to heat up. And the other two modes – smoothies and frozen desserts – work just as well in the E310. So it’s not like the Pro 500 is contributing something new. What’s changed is just the names of the blending modes, nothing else.

This allows you a bit more control over the blender. It takes away the second-guessing for how fast or slow you want the blender to work in case you want to quickly whip up a smoothie or make ice cream.

But considering that with the Vitamix E310 you can make hot soup in minutes gives it an advantage over the Pro 500, even though it comes with a Hot Soup setting.

3. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: Vitamix E310

+Size

The Vitamix Pro Series 500 is not apartment-friendly. It has a whopping 20.5 inches height frame which means it cannot sit under cabinets. The E310, on the other hand, features an 18 inches tall design so it will conveniently fit under cabinets without giving you any trouble.

For a standard-height cabinet, 20.5-inches is quite tall. By depth and width, the E310 measures 11 x 8 inches and the Pro Series 500 measures 8.7 x 7.2 inches respectively.

Based on these measurements, you can tell that the Pro Series 500 is broader than the E310. But the E310 is lengthier than the Pro Series 500.

But overall, when talking about the more convenient and space-friendly option, the Vitamix E310 is a more favourable option for daily users.

4. Utilities

The Winner: Vitamix Pro 500

+Warranty

The Pro 500 offers a 7-year warranty on all important parts and functions of the blender. The E310 covers those same parts and functionalities but only for 5 years. So there is a limited 2-year between the warranties of the winner, Pro 500, and the runner-up, E310.

+Cord Length

Another minor inconvenience on behalf of the E310 is that it has a shorter cord length – 4.5 feet – than the Pro 500 – 6 feet. You will have to keep the E310 closer to an electric socket than the Pro 500. If you’re working in a large kitchen with fewer sockets, this can get tricky. But for a small countertop, this should not be a problem.

Vitamix E310 vs Pro 500: Similarities

1. Weight

Despite their differences in size and container, the E310 and Pro 500 have the same weight, almost. The E310 weighs 11.5 lbs and the Pro 500 weighs 10 lbs. While the Pro 500 can be categorized as bulky, at least it’s not heavy to carry around, in fact, it’s slightly lighter than the E310 which is more compact.

2. Speed

Both blenders offer 10 variable speeds for blending different ingredients and creating textures. For softer ingredients like fruits, you won’t need to increase the speed level further than 5. And for harder ingredients or ice or making butter, choosing between 5 and 10 is the ideal speed range.

Having 10 variable speeds is of great help because it avoids inconsistent performance. These settings take care of everything from crushing ice, kneading dough, mixing pancake batter, making butter, or whipping up purees, smoothies, milkshakes, etc.

3. Cleaning

Cleaning a high-performance blender can be a time-consuming task. And if you’re new to the world of blenders, you want something simple and quick. Thankfully, both blenders offer dishwasher-safe parts including the lid and container jar. Also, you have the self-cleaning feature which cleans the inside of the container jar and the blades effectively.

All you need to activate the self-cleaning feature is to add warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Close the lid and let the blender run for 30-60 seconds. This gets rid of any food residue, stains, odors, and slimy texture from inside the jar.
