The overall functionality of both Vitamix A3500 vs 780 is great. I was impressed by their convenient and intuitive features and speedy performance. But which is better?

For the everyday user who doesn’t have a problem sticking to the blender, on its own, offers, the Vitamix 780 is versatile, durable, and offers an excellent texture quality.

The Vitamix A3500, on the other hand, is for the modern user. It features more versatility in how you control the speed of the blender for various recipes. With Bluetooth and a programmable timer, you can adjust the blender’s performance more intuitively than the 780.

But both feature touchscreen displays, a powerful 2.2 motor, and a large 64-ounce container for everyday use. I would pick the A3500, any day, for its smart and user-friendly functionality.

Vitamix A3500 vs 780: Differences

While both are automatic and easy to use blenders, the Vitamix A3500 is equipped with more intelligent features which is why it wins 2 – 1 against the 780.

1. Controls / Settings

The Winner: Vitamix A3500

+Self-Detect Technology

Starting with the programmability differences, the Vitamix A3500 lets you control what size of blender you can use on the main motor. With self-detect, it will automatically adjust the speed and power based on the blender size.

For that, you will have to buy, separately, a Vitamix-compatible blender jar. The one in this product measures 64 ounces. You can buy a smaller 32-ounce or 48-ounce blender jar or even a personal-sized 12-ounce one and all are compatible on the Vitamix A3500.

This is something the 780 does not offer. You can, however, use a different size blender provided that you check its compatibility. But it won’t adjust the power or speed based on the size. You can do so with the 10 variable speed dial settings.

On the A3500, this is auto-detected and handled by the intelligent blender itself.

+Bluetooth Connectivity

If you see the control panel of the A3500, it has 5 program settings for blending and 10 variable speed settings. What is not seen, however, is the Bluetooth-enabled Vitamix app that lets you access up to 17 more blending modes. And it can all be programmed, using just the app, to suit your blending needs.

Just add all the ingredients into the blender jar and secure the lid. Start the blender and link it to the Vitamix’s smart app. You get access to more blending modes and also hundreds of blending recipes to try out. You can adjust the ingredients by quantity and the app lets you appropriate the recipe based on your personal needs.

Unfortunately, for the Vitamix 780, there is no such Bluetooth connectivity. This does limit its versatility and programmability compared with what the A3500 can offer.

+Programmable Digital Timer

The Vitamix A3500 belongs to the big leagues for another reason that it features a programmable timer option. It controls the time of blending and shows you how much time has passed so you can adjust the texture of the blend accordingly.

A feature like a timer, you won’t know it’s helpful until you use it, and the programmable timer lets you simplify your blending without setting up a kitchen timer. For someone like me who loves to multi-task when prepping, this feature is a blessing!

2. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: Vitamix 780

+Weight

The weight of the Vitamix 780 is lighter than the Vitamix A3500 – despite the fact that both are 64-ounce blenders. So in terms of portability, the 780 is easier to maintain, lift, and store.

The 780 weighs 12.5 lbs while the A3500 weighs 14.9 lbs. Both blenders feature BPA-free and shatterproof plastic blender jars, stainless steel blades, and a heavy-duty 2.2 HP motor. But I found the Vitamix 780 to be easier to handle because of its featherweight in comparison to the A3500 which to lift and move around is a bit exhausting.

3. Utilities

+Warranty

All Vitamix blenders come with a secure and foolproof warranty. But the A3500 features a 10-year warranty while the 780 features a 7-year warranty. So, by default, my personal preference is the A3500 because I get more protection for the price I put into it.

Both are high-speed blenders that can crush ice in seconds. The blades do not struggle with fibrous foods, nuts, seeds, or any such difficult ingredient. So having that extra warranty makes a lot of sense for long-term use.

Vitamix A3500 vs 780: Similarities

1. Blending Performance

Features like the 2.2 motor speed with 24,000 RPM and heavy-duty motor base with stainless steel blades and a 64-ounce container are the same in both blenders. This ensures smooth, consistent, and fast blending performance.

In fact, both the Vitamix A3500 and 780 can blend and cook. It can blend ingredients for purees, dressing, causes, salsa, marinades, smoothies, juices, and other such recipes. And it can cook recipes like hot soup that require a raised temperature while blending.

The BPA-free plastic container ensures that no toxic chemicals get into the food while blending. And the stainless steel blades are sharp and retain that sharpness for a long time so that there are no lumps or chunks in your food.

2. Programmability

Adjusting the speed and selecting a blending mode is so simple using the Vitamix A3500 and 780. Both blenders feature an intuitive touchscreen control panel. You can select your speed from 1 to 10. Or you can select from 5 different blending modes for smoothies, puree, soup, frozen dessert, and the self-cleaning feature.

The blender is then ready for use after you’ve added all the ingredients and secured the lid on the container. Both blenders have the Pulse feature which is common and essential to all mixers. And the standard on/off that lets you manually start and stop the blending.

3. Cleaning

The cleaning feature on these blenders are impressive and fast. The self-cleaning mode does a fantastic task of getting rid of any scraps of food from under the blades for you. Both blenders come with dishwasher-safe parts which adds that extra layer of protection.

But if you make a crunchy and sticky recipe like peanut butter, the self-cleaning feature comes more in handy. Add warm water and soap and close the lid. Do not fill the jar with a lot of water – up to the halfway point.

Select the self-cleaning mode and watch the magic happen! It dislodges and scrubs away every last morsel of that peanut butter and gets rid of that unwanted stickiness from the inner surface of the blender. So you don’t have to vigorously scrub the blender jar by hand. And you can easily wash it in a dishwasher after.
